Asthma

Asthma is a lung condition that causes a person to have difficulty breathing. It affects your bronchial tubes, or airways. When you have asthma, your airways sometimes become inflamed and swollen, often in response to certain triggers. 

In most people with asthma, the difficulty breathing happens periodically, which is called an asthma attack. When you have an asthma attack, you may cough, wheeze (sounds like a whistling when you breathe), be short of breath or feel an intense tightness in your chest. Having an asthma attack is like trying to breathe through a straw. Asthma attacks usually need to be treated with a fast acting or “rescue” medicine prescribed by your doctor.
