Healthy Cleveland Business Council

Healthy Cleveland Business CouncilMaking Cleveland a healthy place to do business!

The Healthy Cleveland Business Council (HCBC) is comprised of Greater Cleveland businesses and organizations that are committed to improving worker health in Cleveland. Members are both small and large businesses from all types of industries. The Council’s long-term goal is to create an environment that fosters healthier attitudes and behaviors and attracts businesses and people to live, work and play in the city of Cleveland and throughout Cuyahoga County

The HCBC is supported by Steps to a Healthier Cleveland, a program of the Cleveland Department of Public Health, and our partners, Cuyahoga County Board of Health and Kaiser Permanente.

Why do we need the Healthy Cleveland Business Council?

  • Employees’ health impacts productivity, absenteeism, employer supported health care costs and more.

  • Unhealthy employees are expensive. For example, it costs on average $1,300 for an employee who smokes per year. (source: Centers for Disease Control & Prevention)
  • Growing numbers of Clevelanders are engaging in unhealthy behaviors:
    • 33% of Clevelanders are obese
