Walk a Hound, Lose a PoundWalk a Hound, Lose a Pound encourages Clevelanders (and their dogs) to be more physically active. Just 30 minutes a day of walking can have a positive impact on your health—and your waistline! Regular exercise is good for your dog too.

Participants enjoy community dog walks in neighborhoods throughout Cleveland. Everyone who signs up receives an Official Walk a Hound, Lose a Pound Walker’s Guidepdf and a free gift.

Why is Walk a Hound, Lose a Pound important?

  • 33% of Clevelanders are obese
  • 28% of Clevelanders report that they don’t engage in any physical activity or exercise
  • 25-40% of dogs in the United States are overweight or obese*
Walk a Hound, Lose a Pound also helps to place abandoned animals into loving homes by connecting walkers with dogs from local animal shelters. Several pets have been adopted since the Walk a Hound, Lose a Pound program began.

The program is a collaboration between Steps to a Healthier Cleveland and Clevelanders in Motion, a program of the YMCA of Greater Cleveland. Support is provided by The Kenneth A. Scott Charitable Trust, a KeyBank Trust.
